Just popped along to see an exhibition by local Lancaster artist – Chas Jacobs at the stunning Ashton Memorial, Williamson Park, Lancaster.
When I moved back to Lancaster last year one of the first things me & the hubby bought for our new house was one of Chas’s prints. The picture we chose was such a cheery print and it still brings a smile to my face. It’s titled ‘Montage’ and shows many of the local landmarks of Lancaster.
Chas draws his inspiration from the towns and landscapes of the North West of England; a unique and beautiful area including Morecambe Bay, the Forest of Bowland and the nearby Lake District in Cumbria as well as from his holidays in Devon, particularly Dartmouth, where his interest in boats, the sea and harbours are reflected in his work.
Chas has been producing images which reflect the region for over 15 years. Having always lived in the area, Chas manages to add a very local feel to the scenes he produces.
Strong primary colours, fluffy white clouds and often multi-coloured balloons make the paintings instantly recognisable and fun. If you look carefully, you will sometimes find his springer spaniel, Rags, in the paintings. Website: http://www.chasjacobs.co.uk/
